You can start doing pilates exactly as you are. The equipment and props are there to assist or challenge you. No matter where you are in your health journey; your body will thank you.
I teach to the bodies in front of me.
I have taught individuals with knee or hip replacements, rheumatoid, and osteoarthritis. Along with those that complain of the common back, shoulder, neck issues that accompany with sports or aging. I’ve also taught individuals with early dementia, parkinson’s, and autism. Movement is medicine, and my hope is for you to reap the benefits and enjoy exercise!
Many exercises and stretches are quite restorative and people are often surprised that exercise can feel good. The trick is to be positioned correctly with props to allow the core to engage and support the body.
The “no pain no gain” mantra serves no purpose in a Pilates class. If you are feeling pain, it's the body telling you, “I need more support.”
In each class I have a general outline, but every body is different. Some individuals will need more or less support from the reformer or the props. Others will need to avoid certain exercises. Each class is scheduled by me. I group/schedule people according to his/her goals, needs, and availability.
